Synopsis:
Two misfits.
One extraordinary love.
Eleanor... Red hair, wrong clothes. Standing behind him until he turns his head. Lying beside him until he wakes up. Making everyone else seem drabber and flatter and never good enough...Eleanor.
Park... He knows she'll love a song before he plays it for her. He laughs at her jokes before she ever gets to the punch line. There's a place on his chest, just below his throat, that makes her want to keep promises...Park.
Set over the course of one school year, this is the story of two star-crossed sixteen-year-olds—smart enough to know that first love almost never lasts, but brave and desperate enough to try.
Rainbow Rowell’s book uses great POVs of both teens falling in love in a school bus. You would not really expect Eleanor and Park to easily capture each feeling because Eleanor wears clothes weird and uncanny hairstyle.
I will be honest with my critique. I did not have any notes of this book, I highlighted but only few, so this tells me that I will probably have a short review on this book. I usually end up reading a book for a day or two but this time, it took an ever. I do not know why but as long as I read it, I feel bored and nothing. I read it again and stop. I read it again and stop. Eleanor and Park’s POV simultaneously exchanges and is good. But my thing is I have a trouble reading it. The story of them is just as usual as others, I mean, the word is “common”. They read comics together and I find it cute. I wanted to know, too, what happened to Eleanor’s mom and her siblings after she went to her Uncle at Minnesota.
What I liked with Rowell’s Eleanor & Park is that it keeps me getting mad with Eleanor’s family especially her mom and step dad. You have to read the book to know why I am mad at them. I do not want to spoil you with my review. Plus, it is worth to read even though it has a little problem on me. I finished the book because I wanted to know how it ends. It disappoints me a bit but it was okay.
Eleanor and Park is funny, sad, shocking, and true—an exquisite nostalgia trip for anyone who has never forgotten their first love.
