I told myself that I would stop reading Ivory and Bone if it is still boring until 30%. But I found myself reading until its half because I was waiting. I was waiting… for Lo. The plot picked up when she came into the story. Kol and Mya’s was just plain boring. I know there is something wrong with Mya towards Kol, and I have guessed it right at the end why because it was obvious - Ivory and Bone spoils itself. Warning: The next sentence may spoil you and lose your interest. Highlight at your own risk. Also, I was hurt that I have encountered Kol killing a mammoth down, but I understand since this is set in prehistoric.
Despite the weak points, Ivory and Bone is a moving-read towards family responsibilities. Kol is a great clan-leader in training who pays close attention and is exquisite. He is also a great brother and a son. All I can say of Mya is that she’s obstinate. I may have hated her for that but then have understood her side for she has her reasons, not just stubborn-because-I-like-it-to-be stubborn.
The plot was not that compelling but I still have enjoyed reading it since Kol TELLS. YOU. EVERYTHING. BEAUTIFULLY. His perspective was well done written.
If you love saber tooth cats running (towards you), spear throwing and bee hunting and Pride and Prejudice, you will assuredly be delighted reading Ivory and Bone.
OOOH this one is at my local library and I've borrowed it twice...and returned it without reading. (I know, I'm terrible!) I am quite interested to read it but for some reason, I keep holding off reading it but the way it's compared to Pride And Prejudice is super intriguing for me! Thanks for the lovely review!

ReplyDeleteThis sounds like an intriguing read because I've never read anything set in the prehistoric era. It's also interesting from a Pride and Prejudice POV. I might pick this up in the future.
ReplyDeleteI think I felt mostly the same about this book. I enjoyed it but it wasn't amazing---I've heard good things about the second book, though, and I think I'll pick it up.

Yani! It's been so long since I've been on your beautiful blog but on my tablet screen it looks like you've had a bit of a makeover! (Must check on the PC tomorrow) but it looks gorgeous! I really like the sound of this one, despite it being a little on the dull and slow side. I think references to Pride and Prejudice lured me in and now I'm super intrigued. Superb review Yani, really enjoyed it.
ReplyDeleteSuch a great, succinct review! I don't know if I'll pick this up quite yet - maybe I'll wait for more reviews of the sequel to pour in before I decide that I want to commit to YET another series. Shame that it was boring towards the beginning - but the family-factor has me intrigued!

Sorry this disappointed you in some ways, but the family aspect sounds interesting, and Kol sounds like a great character!
ReplyDeleteI have yet to pick this one up. I usually jump at the chance to read a Jane Austen retelling and I like the fact that this one sounds so unusual. I've seen a lot of bloggers point out its shortcomings, so that's probably why I've stayed away. I might take a chance on this one if I'm looking for something different. Thanks for the review!
