Set in a world where every men, women and child are bald, this book failed to meet my hopes. I was really expecting this to be exciting. I wondered and still wondered how it ended. Honestly, I just skimmed everything. Lucky for me I was half through it but still there’s nothing agitating to read it further. I will not recommend this—NO, NEVER.

This reminds me of Illuminae (though I have not read it, I know what’s inside and what it is about) but then… a big disappoint occurred on how things turned out on the three-fifth book—it made me stop reading it for a while. I want to enjoy the book, the idea is interesting but the writing doesn’t pursue you to read more.

The romance of Sweet is cute. I did not expect for the protagonist to get such relationship and in such horrifying cruise. I intensely love how the book went from their innocence of the food the sweetener they are taking to the gruesome reality of the sweetener. I was marked by uncontrolled emotion on reading Sweet. I love the pace that it made me feel like I am part of the book.

Have you read any of these books? Are you a fan of science fiction books? What SCIFI books would you recommend for me to read next?

P.S. I apologize for my June hiatus. I did not expect that my fourth year in uni would be that hella crazy busy.

  1. I'm a huge fan of science fiction! Oh man I'm so sad that Sleeping Giants was a disappointment, considering how many times I've heard about it everywhere! I've heard that it sounds like Illuminae as well and the cover just looks so beautiful!

    1. Of all those delighting feedback, you'll never know if it is really what it is.

  2. I haven't read any of these but I tend to shy away from most sci fi, for whatever reason I tend to not like it.

    1. I think you avoid most sci fi because of too much information (that are mostly unnecessary), same as I felt for these books.

  4. I didn't get through Sleeping Giants! There was something about the writing that just didn't work for me. It was something that, despite being told mostly as interviews, didn't feel like actual humans talking. I did like the cover, though!

  5. Great reviews! I admit I'm not much of a science fiction book fan. I love science fiction movies and shows, but for some reason I just can never really get into the books. That's too bad that Bald New World and Sleeping Giants were disappointing. Sweet sounds interesting though and the cover is gorgeous.

    1. I think most sci fi books are lousy like the first two books above. (Sigh.) But Sweet is fine which you can still enjoy it at least.

  6. I'm pretty hit-or-miss with sci-fi hahahah. OH FAIL TO ME. XD I just tend to be too disbelieving if it's sci-fi mixed with contemporary settings or what not? But I still do adore some sci-fis. I want to read Sweet so bad! And I'm kind of curious about Sleeping Giants (especially with the Illuminae comparison!) so I'm going to see if my library has it. XD

Thanks for stopping by @ Paper Fury!

    1. You should check them out, Cait. Sweet is somewhat worth it. But I can't recommend Sleeping Giants that high though. Good luck!

  7. Yikes to the first two. Sweet was pretty cool. I really loved the concept, and the ending was great!

  8. I haven't heard of the other two books, but I really want to read Sleeping Giants. I'm sorry that it was disappointing though! The cover is so... fascinating though; usually I'm immune to coverly love, but Sleeping Giants's book cover makes me want to buy the book for the cover alone. I'm going to give the book a go though - hopefully I won't find it disappointing too!

    1. I hope it's not for you. Yes, I was fascinated with the cover too but the inside didn't give justice to it.
